Katie received her PhD from The Pennsylvania State University in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology, and her B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. She went on to do a post doc in immunology at the University of California, San Diego. She also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the University of San Diego. During her time in academia, Katie authored numerous scientific papers, grants, and fellowships, as well as assisting fellow students and post docs with writing and editing.
Katie gained invaluable international experience when she moved to Okinawa, Japan for three years. There she was a Science and Communications Fellow at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University writing news pieces for the communications department.
Katie’s lab and teaching experience in multiple subject areas, including cancer, immunology, genetics, and reproductive biology has helped her write about the most cutting edge research in subjects ranging from medicine to physics. She enjoys learning and becoming proficient in new fields and writing styles to keep things interesting! And as a current member of the American Medical Writer’s Association, she stays up-to-date with current trends and issues in the medical writing world.
